Travel Information

Jersey City - Here We Come !

By Air

Flying to Jersey City will be easiest if you arrive at Newark Liberty Airport (EWR). LaGuardia (LGA) and Kennedy (JFK) Airports in NYC are also options, however, the length and cost of your ground transportation to the Westin will be considerably higher and longer.

From Newark Liberty Airport, the Westin is about 20-40 minutes by taxi or car service depending on traffic. While taxis are plentiful at the airport, the ride hailing apps like Uber and Lyft work there and often have lower rates. As of this posting, cabs can cost $46+ from EWR to Jersey City. Shuttle service can be arranged: http://us.jayride.com/SuperShuttle-Airport-Shuttle-Bus/11-26816-7

By Land
Driving directions provided by the Westin http://www.westinjerseycitynewport.com/hotel-directions. Google Maps https://maps.google.com/ or your favorite GPS are likely to provide the best customized directions to the Westin Jersey City Newport.

Here are a few helpful hints for your journey by car. First, consider using the app Waze https://www.waze.com/get to help manage any difficulties you find with traffic or routing. It has excellent up to date information and is regularly relied upon by NYC Taxi and Uber drivers to avoid traffic problems. Second, many of the directions from the area highways will lead you towards the Holland Tunnel. Don’t be surprised! Since the hotel is right on the riverfront, you will be taking the last exit before the tunnel so stay to the right so you can turn right on Marin Blvd and avoid going into the Holland Tunnel toll plaza.

On the street parking in Jersey City is subject to a host of regulations including resident parking stickers and alternate side of the street parking rules. Garage parking is the way to go.

For daily commuters, please pick up a ticket from the conference registration table each day as you need a validated ticket to accompany your original parking ticket in order to get the $15 a day pricing.

Overnight hotel guests, please pick up a validated parking ticket from the conference registration desk during the day of your departure.  Please be sure to keep your original parking ticket as you will need this ticket as well as the validated parking ticket when you leave in order to receive the reduced parking rate.

By Train

Amtrak, has two arrival options for getting to Jersey City.  If you are coming from points south and west heading north on the Northeast Corridor, you will most likely want to take the train to Newark Penn Station. From Newark Penn Station, you can either transfer to the PATH train or use a taxi or car service (i.e. Uber, Lyft). There is only one choice of PATH train, WTC, at Penn Newark. We suggest taking it two stops to Journal Square (JSQ) and then change across the platform to the 33rd Street PATH Train (that will be the service on the weekend) to Newport, which is two stops. Exit up the escalators and the Westin will be across the street and one block to the south (look left and you will see the Westin).

For those coming from points north and east on Amtrak it may be simpler to take the train to New York Penn (Pennsylvania) Station.  (Those coming from Long Island via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) can also follow these instructions). Penn Station lies between 31st & 33rd Streets and between 7th & 8th Avenues.  All of the tracks are below ground level and there is an information booth near the ticket counters in the main area where they can help you with the most efficient exits and entrances. Exit Penn station and walk to the PATH train. It is a short 5 minute walk from NY Penn Station to the PATH terminus at Herald Square. The plus to this route is you will get to see the outside of Macy’s all decked out for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday Parade!

If you exit Penn Station along 7th Avenue you will be on the west side of the street. To get to the subway/PATH station at Herald Square (34th Street/6th Avenue) cross 7th and walk one block in that direction. If you use the main, eastern entrance/exit for Penn Station at 32nd Street - just walk east one long block on 32nd from 7th Avenue to 6th Avenue and then go north a short distance along the west side of 6th Avenue to get to the other PATH station entrance at the Manhattan Mall.

Please note PATH trains run underground and when you get on the PATH train, make sure you get on a train that is traveling to Journal Square (this is the Jersey City train) and not Hoboken. This assumes you are traveling during the week between 6 AM and 11 PM; if you are not it doesn't matter because the same train serves both stations. The Journal Square trains will have a sign lit up that says "JSQ", while the Hoboken trains will have signs lit up saying "HOB". (More PATH info http://www.panynj.gov/path/newport-station.html). As of this posting the fare for a single PATH ride is $2.75 and roundtrip is $5.50. You will need to purchase tickets to get through the turnstiles. Credit cards accepted.

By Bus
Arrive at the NYC Port Authority. Located from 40th to 42nd Streets, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, the terminal is both the largest bus station in the nation and the busiest in the world. You will need to go to the PATH station located at Herald Square (see train instructions). You do not have to exit the building if you find the NYC subway station on the Eighth Ave side of the building. Go down the escalator, walk through the doors, purchase a ticket, (a single ride is $2.75 as of this posting) go through the turnstile and take a downtown E, A or C train for one stop to 34th street. Walk to the PATH train at 34th and 6th Avenue (see PATH instructions above).

By Sea
Last but certainly not least, for the sailors of NEAIR, there is the option of docking at the Newport Yacht Club and Marina that is conveniently located across the street from the Westin. Reservation requests for dock slips may be made at: http://igy-newport.com/marina/reservations/.
