General Tips to Orient Yourself
In the area you will be, here are some general tips to get oriented
5th Avenue and 7th Avenue: traffic heads south
6th Avenue: traffic heads north (also, landmarks: north is the Empire State Building, south is
the World Trade Center)
The blocks between avenues are long blocks
The blocks between streets are short blocks
Directions from NJ Transit, Penn
Station (here’s the best map of Penn Station we’ve found on the web: http://jasongibbs.com/pennstation/)
Option 1: more walking, don’t
need to leave Penn Station
In the station, from the NJ
transit area head west towards the Main Concourse. Follow signs to the subway
(northmost part of Penn Station), which will be downstairs
Take the south-bound 1 train toward South Ferry (4 stops), 2 train toward Flatbush(1 stop) or 3 train towards New Lots (1 stop) train
to the 14th Street station. Try to exit the station at 14th
st (if you don’t it’s not the worst thing – you will end up on 13th
street. In this case, head north on 7th [against traffic] to 14th
street). Head east on 14th street (landmark: you will see yellow and
black Pratt banners on a right-hand side building). You will walk two long
blocks until you hit 5th Avenue. Make a left on 5th. Walk
two blocks and make a right on 16th street. Look for New School
banners on the left-hand side of the street.
Option 2: less walking, involves
From NJ transit area (on the East
side of the station) – exit the station to the east onto 7th avenue,
head north on 7th ave (against traffic). Make a right on West 33rd
(landmark: Empire State Building is ahead of you). Walk 1 long block to 6th
ave, make a left on 6th ave. about ¾ of the way to West 34th, there
will be the 34th st-Herald Square Station (N,Q,R). Take the N
towards Coney Island – Stillwell 3 stops. Exit at 14 St Union Sq.
There are 3 exits from the Union
Square Station. If you exit on 14th st, head west on 14th
(the park will be to your right). Make a right on University Place/Union Square
West. Go two blocks and make a left on E 16th St. ¾ down the block
on the left, look for New School banners on the right-hand side of the street.
Directions From Grand Central
Take the south-bound 4 train towards Crown Heights-Utica Ave
(1 stop), 5 train towards Bowling
Green (1 stop) , or the 6 train towards
Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall (1 stop) to 14 Street Union Square.
Exit the station and head west
(on 14th street, the park will be to your right. If you take 15th
or 16th you will cut through the park). Make a right on 5th
avenue and a left on 16th. 6 E 16th street is about ¾ of
the way down the block on the right-hand side of the street. Look for New

Exit on 14th Street,
make a right from the station. You will be right next to an Urban Outfitters.
Keep going north (with traffic) two blocks to 16th Street. Make a
right, walk past 5th ave and ¾ of a block past 5th avenue
on the left-hand side of the street is 6E 16th Street. Look for New

Come join the Manhattan IR Group, a social gathering of local IR

Drive-In workshops at Amity Hall (http://www.amityhallnyc.com/), a local bar in
Greenwich Village with great food and an amazing beer selection. We will be
meeting in the lobby between the front door and the security gates at 4:15 (if
you’re a tiny bit late we’ll wait for you – no worries). Enjoy a 15-minute
scenic walk down Fifth Avenue and through Washington Square Park. There is also
the option of meeting us at the destination itself: 80 West 3rd St.

than you think so leave the car at home or at a train station on the

- Hotel Information - The Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference Center has a number of
rooms available for July 18 and July 19, if interested. Book your room
from the Sheraton Central Reservations Office at 1-855-873-6559. Rates currently $134
and up per night. Rooms are more expensive if you book with the hotel
directly, so call the number above. No NEAIR rate, just the general
rate. The Sheraton provides a free (10-15 minute) shuttle to the Secaucus
Junction, NJ train station, and then it is a about a 15-20 minute train ride to
NY’s Pennsylvania Station ($4 each way). You can leave your car at the
Sheraton, and there is no parking charge for hotel guests.
